In Quarters of Fire House #6
Station 6 is a single company house that houses one ALS engine company staffed by three rotating shifts consisting of a captain, driver, senior firefighter, and private--one of whom is a paramedic on each shift. Station 6 was constructed in 1936 in Knoxville as the city continued to expand east and additional fire coverage was needed. Station 6 is a relatively small, all brick house, that contains much history. Inside, the station is the smallest in the city and the engine bay makes up most of the living quarters and gives the station the most character. Along with the bay, we also have a day room, kitchen, a captain's bunk room, firefighter's bunk room, and a single bathroom. Station 6 is in the 82nd District commanded by an assistant chief (Car 82) and we regularly run with Engine 16, Engine 3, Engine 11, Engine 1, Ladder 3, Ladder 1, and Squad 4. We are located in a busy fire district covering mostly single-family, older homes, and light commercial tenants. We also cover the busy interstates of I-40 and I-640.
