Engine Company #6

Engine 6 is a 2005 Ferrara 1500 gpm, four-man pumper.  The engine has a 500 gallon booster tank, a full complement of hydraulic rescue tools/generator, and ALS medical equipment.  Engine 6 carries a split hose bed with 5" LDH and 3" hose used as supply lines, three pre-connect 1-3/4 hand lines of varying length (75', 150', and 200') for quick attack, and other backup lines and high-rise packs with additional hose length if the situation calls for it.

Engine 6 responds to fire, medical, accidents, service calls, and rescue needs in the Burlington section of Knoxville.  Engine 6 averages approximately 1,200 calls a year. 

Below are the response procedures for fire incidents for KFD:

  • Single Family Residential Fire = 3 engines, 1 ladder, 1 rescue, 1 ambulance, 1 chief

  • Business/Building/Apartment Fire= 4 engines, 1 ladder, 1 rescue, 1 ambulance, 1 chief

  • High-occupancy Fire (i.e. Hospital, High-rise) = 4 engines, 2 ladders, 1 hazmat, 1 rescue, 1 ambulance, 1 chief

  • Major Disaster (i.e. plane crash, explosion) = same as high-occupancy

  • Extra Alarm (2nd, 3rd, etc...) = 2 engines, 1 ladder, 1 chief (each additional alarm)
